Affresco: unique, hand-painted one-offs from Moscow
Fresco technique in large format
The largest motif of them all may well be three metres high and ten metres long. It needs three assistants to put it on the wall. Otherwise the plaster surface can be applied to a paper wall covering, and be used like ‘normal’ wallpaper. All the motifs are painted by hand. It takes around three to five days to create each piece, which is made as a single sheet. There is a large selection of motifs, which are often inspired by Italian landscapes; there are also some romantic floral patterns and images of animals romping with one another in Affresco’s repertoire. You need to reckon with around €120 per square metre of hand-made fresco wallpaper. The company is based in Moscow and has 200 employees. This year is the first year that Affresco have exhibited at Heimtextil, where they are hoping to be able to fire the enthusiasm of the European market for this unique craft technique.
