Textile designer from Mexico gives insights into her work

Cristina Orozco Cuevas, award-winning independent textile designer based in Mexico City, presented her latest designs at Heimtextil 2018. Her studio is specialized in surface design mainly in woven (jacquard and dobby) and prints (traditional and digital). Right now her portfolio has more than 1,200 patterns. Her clients are mainly mills and some retailers in Mexico, USA, India and the Netherlands.

“My work can be described as ‘Never repeat yourself’”, says Cristina Orozco Cuevas. “By working as a chameleon, adapting to clients needs, projects, styles trends or just not following nobody. Also because of my background and training in the industry, you really need to be able to adapt by having the ability and insight of despite being one person, be able to design as if you were a pull of ten designers, which has made it really challenging for different brands and markets.”

The inspiration for her textile designs comes from her daily life and her surroundings. “I never want to get stock with a single style or designer formula, that is why I am always looking for color and shapes in the street, food, architecture, nature and also in the digital world, just everywhere.”
