The family company Fiedler has been selling genuine leather for 32 years – with a focus on aniline leather, which, with its open-pored surface, is one of the most valuable types of leather. ‘Natural products such as leather demand that both retailer and customer take a more relaxed view to the material,” explains Nicole Fiedler.
A cowhide is between 4.5 and 5.5 square metres in size and bears evidence of the animal’s life. You may see scars and other marks – but that’s exactly what makes leather so charming. The climate in the place where the animal has been kept or what the animal is fed on is reflected in the skin. ‘We only procure our leather from animals fit for human consumption, mainly from southern German bulls. Our tanneries are located in Germany, Italy and one product comes from Spain’, states Nicole Fiedler. At Fiedler, three siblings share a fascination for leather and since 2019, the Fiedlers have expanded the leather range with high-quality plain fabrics. For Heimtextil 2020, they have created inspiring mood boards made from leather and fabrics for 20 colour worlds under the label ‘Peter Geiger’ and will offer them to interested interior designers and contract furnishers. Leder Fiedler has a total of approximately 1000 leather products in stock and also offers individualised products for varied areas of application. ‘This kind of development process with customers and tanners can sometimes last weeks or months’, says Nicole Fiedler, ‘but we love this close cooperation. You get to know customers very well like this. And it brings us together!’. Whether she sells half a skin for an exclusive order or handles a large order for the industry: her fascination for the natural product leather remains undimmed even after three decades at Leder Fiedler.
