Sales growth for German manufacturers
The latest figures from the DTI German Wallpaper Institute confirm the pronounced wallpaper trend in interior design. Sales amongst German wallpaper manufacturers grew by a solid 2 percent to EUR 330 million in the first three quarters of 2012. Approximately 73 million rolls of wallpaper were sold, which is roughly equivalent to the 2011 level. Within Germany, there was a slight decline from the previous year’s very strong level to roughly EUR 110 million (a 1 percent year-on-year decline). Sales fell to about 25 million rolls of wallpaper (just over a 4 percent drop). Outside Germany, however, the first three quarters of the year showed a significant 4 percent rise in sales to roughly EUR 223 million. At 2 percent, growth in the number of wallpapers sold failed to reach last year’s level, but it was still very strong with sales of about 50 million rolls.
Versatile room decor
Over the past several years, wallpaper has transformed from a mere wall covering into a versatile form of room decor. Modern wallpapers offer a dazzling array of different designs and materials, backed in paper or fleece and boasting interesting structural profiles such as satin, faux hide and other unexpected looks. With atmospheric patterns, contemporary colours and surprising surfaces, they add a personal touch to any living space.
