Fairtrade, organic quality bed linen

Storyfabrics is a young Swiss textile label supplying Fairtrade, organic cotton bed linen and baby clothes. The company’s founder, Martina Untermaehrer, grew up in a small village in Switzerland. Issues of sustainability and closeness to nature were self-evident to her there, but it is not always easy to maintain this stance when making daily consumer decisions.

This was Martina Untermaehrer’s experience when looking for Fairtrade, organic cotton bed linen, among other things. The products were either too expensive or they did not appeal to her. This is what motivated the young woman to found her own company, and it is the reason why, in summer 2015, Storyfabrics came into being. Since then the product gap has been closed: Storyfabrics offers a range of bed linen for adults and babies, baby clothes, and knitted blankets made from organic Indian cotton.

It was not easy for Martina Untermaehrer to find a suitable manufacturing partner. That is why she is all the more pleased today to have found exactly the right people at the company, Rajlakshmi Cotton Mills, to fulfil her requirements perfectly. Rajlakshmi Cotton Mills are pioneers in the production of organic and Fairtrade certified home textiles and they are committed to the social and economic well-being of their employees. This also entails regular working hours, trade union freedom and provision of additional benefits, such as heavily subsidised midday meals, health care, and funded education for children. What is special about Rajlakshmi is that Chetna Organic, an organisation of small farmers working together with marginalised farmers in rural regions of India, is an integral part of the company. This means that the cotton farmers are active in the supply chain over a longer period of time.

The tale of Storyfabrics is a cheering one. Not only are the company’s products wonderful in terms of their simplicity and the excellent quality of the materials used, but their partner companies in India enjoy fair and equal cooperation at the same time. Following initial successful product placements in smaller specialist shops in Switzerland, Martina Untermaehrer is now looking for other trading partners across Europe.

Storyfabrics will be showcasing their products in Hall 11.1, Stand no. A 20.
