Trends 2014/2015: the power of opposites
Heimtextil made its debut 44 years ago and, every year for the last 20 years or more, an international team of designers has prepared a preview of the trends for the coming Heimtextil season. To this end, the expertise of a broad spectrum of specialists from all over the world is bundled to produce valuable insights into the (home-textile) future. For both exhibitors and visitors, the Trend Forum is a valuable platform for making presentations, gathering information and entering into discussions. This year, London’s ‘Franklin Till’ agency was responsible for planning and staging the trends, and the designers have compiled the trends for 2014/2015 as a confrontation of two opposing concepts. Under the mottos ‘Progress!’ and ‘Revive!’, they show two aspects of each of these design worlds. ‘Progress!’ covers the wonderful new world in which science and technology are the driving forces of innovations in the design industry. The two aspects shown are ‘Generate Collision’ and ‘Engineer Nature’. ‘Revive!’ reflects the design for significant and authentic experiences and reminds us how important it is to learn from the past and to rediscover and reinterpret traditional values, in order to safeguard them. In this case, the home-textile trends are shown under the headings, ‘Exalt Purity’ and ‘Rejuvenate Craft’.
